What can I do until help arrives?
When storms happen, lives can be suddenly turned around. Often, the hardest part is, knowing what to do first, and who to contact.
Next, after any storm that impacts your home, your primary focus should be health and safety first.

What To Do After Storm Damage

• Check to see if there is any potential electrical issues resulting from the storm. Any questions call an electrician.
• Check to see if there is any structural damage to you home requiring roof repair or board up.
• If possible protect fine wood furniture by propping the legs up or wrapping plastic bags around the legs.
• Remove Art objects to a safe dry place.
• Make a list of items damaged or destroyed and try to include where possible receipts for insurance recovery.
• Remove loose items from the floors. Remember, wet rugs and bedding is heavy.

What NOT To Do After Storm Damage

• Don’t attempt to move broken electrical appliances or devices affected by the storm or water.
• Don’t leave valuable items such as rugs, tapestries, books or firs.
• Don’t use a home vacuum cleaner to remove water from floors or rugs.
• Don’t walk under wet ceilings or damaged roofing areas.
• Don’t use electrical fixtures affected by the storm.
